Hey there, Kevin here, AKA Dunk. Thanks for stoppin' by to view my galleries.
So...I'm a bit of a mountain junky. I suppose one of the main reasons I love the mountains so much is that for 15 years, I was stuck in Texas, soooo many miles from the nearest bump in the ground. During that time, our family would make occasional trips into the mountains but rarely with enough time to do more then view them from the car window.
When I got a little older, I made a few trips with friends to Colorado and New Mexico and learned to ski.
While in college, the rest of my family moved back to California and after I was done with school, I did the same. That opened the door to so many beautiful locations so soon I took up day hiking and quickly thereafter, backpacking. Back then I was using cheapo point and shoot cameras but occasionally came up with a good photo. Every time I'd capture an image that pleased me, it motivated me to get better.
As my carreer developed and I began to make more money, I was able to upgrade equipment, first gettin a low end SLR and learning how to use it, diving into the short lived APS camera movement and now digital, both point and shoot and SLR. As my understanding and desire increased I started integrating more lenses, filters and more dynamic shooting conditions.
That brings us to now. These days I try to get out as much as possible. If I'm not too tired, I try to get out 3 out of every 4 weekends. When your (extended) backyard playgrounds include the land that Ansel Adams and Galen Rowell cut their teeth on, you're never short on subject matter.
The thing is, there's more beyond California's border, so occasionally, I get the chance to explore some of the classic locations that I've always dreamed of: Southern Utah, Canadian Rockies, Glacier National Park...
Problem is, there's just not enough time in the day, week, month, year, decade to photograph and explore all I want to and still have time to organize, arrange and display the pictures I take... But I'll try just the same.
